Jeeyul Kang begins with her own encounters with loss and death, transforming these personal experiences into "Auto-Fiction" across multi-media. She attends to the fact that death is real for everyone, yet remains an event that can only be imagined. For this reason, she looks for death in the closest scenes of everyday life and turns it into fiction.Through this act of reimaging, she seeks to grasp the nonlinear nature of reality that she faces. In this process, "fictional proxies" emerge as figures who endure loss and perform mourning on the artist’s behalf, functioning as channels through which private experiences are opened outward.
Her stories unfold through printmaking, drawing, video, and performance, moving beyond the act of merely seeing to embrace the senses of touch and sound. In particular, because his practice begins with the form of the book and expands across multiple media, it takes on the structure of a “sensorially experienced book” in which visual, auditory, and tactile sensations overlap. For her, the book is a medium that holds both documentary capacity and imagination, as well as a device that keeps the sensations and stories accumulated within it open to others. In doing so, she explores how a deeply personal narrative might extend outward, becoming a collective value.
강지율은 상실과 죽음이라는 개인적인 경험을 출발점으로, 이를 ‘자전적 허구’서사로 풀어내는 다매체 예술가이다. 그는 죽음이 누구에게나 실재하지만, 상상만 가능한 사건이라는 점에 주목한다. 그래서 그는 죽음을 직접 보고 들은 가장 가까운 일상에서 찾고, 그것을 허구의 이야기로 만든다. 그가 구축하는 허구적 서사는 직접 마주하는 현실의 비선형성을 포착하려는 시도이기도 하다. 이 과정에서 등장하는 ‘허구의 대리인’은 작가를 대신해 상실을 감당하고 애도를 수행하며, 사적인 경험을 외부로 열어 보이는 통로가 된다.
이야기는 그림과 글, 판화, 영상, 퍼포먼스 등의 다양한 매체로 펼쳐지며, 단순히 ‘보는’ 행위에 국한되지 않고 ‘만지고 듣는’ 감각의 중요성을 함께 다룬다. 특히 그의 작업은 책의 형식에서 출발해 여러 매체를 가로지르며 확장된다는 점에서, 시각·청각·촉각이 중첩된 ‘감각으로 경험하는 책’의 구조를 이룬다. 그에게 책은 기록성과 상상력을 동시에 지닌 매체로서, 감각과 이야기를 축적하고 공유하는 장치이다. 이를 통해 그는 개인의 서사가 어떻게 집단적 애도로 확장될 수 있는지를 탐색한다.
